Industry
Where a security incident stops the line.
Industrial environments combine long-lived operational technology with an IT estate that changes weekly, and the boundary between them is where most incidents travel. Gryffin secures IT/OT boundaries, assesses control systems safely, and builds the ransomware resilience that production continuity depends on.
Industry Challenges
Operational technology with decades-long lifecycles
Control systems predating modern security assumptions cannot be patched or replaced on an IT schedule, so protection has to work around them.
A flat boundary between IT and OT
Convergence has connected environments that were designed on the assumption of isolation, giving an office-network intrusion a path to production.
Downtime measured in revenue per hour
Production interruption costs are immediate and quantifiable, which makes manufacturing a favoured ransomware target.
Supply chain and remote vendor access
Equipment vendors frequently hold remote access to plant systems under arrangements that were never security reviewed.
OT engagements are scoped around the process, not the network diagram. Testing in live industrial environments is passive by default, with any active testing agreed in writing and scheduled into maintenance windows.
Services
Detect it early. Recover without paying.
Ransomware is not a single event; it is a campaign with a long, noisy run-up - initial access, credential theft, lateral movement, backup tampering - and only then encryption. Every stage before the last is an opportunity to detect and stop it. Gryffin builds detection across that whole chain, hardens the backups attackers go after first, and tests recovery so the decision about paying never has to be a real one.
What the engagement covers.
Precursor detection
Detection content for the stages that precede encryption: credential dumping, privilege escalation, lateral movement, shadow copy deletion and backup tampering.
Encryption behaviour detection and automated containment
Behavioural detection of mass file modification with automated host isolation, executed within seconds rather than after triage.
Backup immutability and isolation
Review and hardening of backup architecture - immutable copies, isolated credentials, offline or logically air-gapped tiers - because attackers target backups before they encrypt.
Recovery runbooks and testing
Documented recovery procedures with defined recovery objectives, tested against real restore timings rather than assumed ones.
Attack surface reduction
Closing the common initial access routes: exposed remote access, unpatched perimeter services, weak authentication and over-permissive privilege.
Retained incident response
A contracted response capability with committed activation times and pre-authorised containment actions.
What you receive
Detection across the whole chain
Detecting encryption is detecting failure. Our content covers the days of activity that precede it, where stopping the campaign is still cheap.
Backups hardened as a target
Modern ransomware operators find and destroy backups first. We review backup architecture the way an attacker would and harden the paths they use.
Recovery times measured, not estimated
Restore procedures are tested against real data volumes. Organisations routinely discover their assumed recovery time is out by an order of magnitude - better to find that in a test.
Containment that does not wait for approval
Automated isolation on encryption behaviour, under authority agreed in advance. Minutes of delay is the difference between one host and the estate.
Illustrative. Scenarios drawn from common engagement patterns.

A board asking whether the company would pay

The legitimate flows through untouched and compliant; the malicious never makes it past the wall. This pillar covers the controls that decide what enters your network, what moves inside it, and who is allowed to reach what.

Next-Generation Firewall & Perimeter Defence
Design and policy engineering for next-generation firewalls with application awareness, inspection and threat prevention - including the rulebase cleanup that most inherited estates badly need.
Intrusion Detection & Prevention (IDS / IPS)
Tuned detection and inline prevention across north-south and east-west traffic, calibrated to your environment so alerts remain worth reading.
Network Access Control & Segmentation
Device posture checks, role-based network admission and segmentation that contains an intrusion to the zone it started in rather than the estate it wanted.
Secure Web Gateway & DNS Security
Outbound control over web and DNS traffic - category and content policy, encrypted traffic inspection, and blocking of command-and-control callbacks.
DDoS Protection & Traffic Resilience
Volumetric and application-layer mitigation architecture with tested failover, so availability holds under deliberate pressure.
Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA)
Application-level access that replaces flat VPN trust - every request authenticated, authorised and continuously evaluated against device and user context.
Identity & Access Governance
Joiner-mover-leaver automation, privileged access management, entitlement review and least-privilege enforcement across on-premises and cloud identity stores.
Multi-Factor & Adaptive Authentication
Phishing-resistant authentication rolled out with a migration path users will actually accept, with risk-based step-up for sensitive actions.
Secure Connectivity (VPN, SD-WAN)
Encrypted site-to-site and remote connectivity with resilient routing, integrated inspection and consistent policy across branch, data centre and cloud.
Vendor-independent design, multi-vendor delivery
We design to the requirement and then deploy on the platform that fits - including the one you already own. Our engineers are certified across the major firewall, NAC and identity platforms rather than tied to a single OEM.
Rulebase archaeology
Inherited firewall estates accumulate thousands of rules nobody dares touch. We analyse actual traffic against policy, retire what is dead, tighten what is over-permissive, and document what remains.
Zero Trust delivered in stages people accept
ZTNA rollouts fail on adoption, not technology. We sequence migration by application and user group, run VPN and ZTNA in parallel through cutover, and keep a rollback path open at every stage.
Identity treated as the real perimeter
Access governance, privileged access and phishing-resistant authentication are designed as one programme, because an attacker with valid credentials walks past every network control you own.
Illustrative. Scenarios drawn from common engagement patterns.
Flat network, one breach away from everything
VPN cannot carry a permanently hybrid workforce
Contractors and third parties with more access than anyone can justify
Attack it properly, or find out the hard way.
A penetration test is only worth what its findings are worth. Automated scanning tells you which software versions are old; it does not tell you that a low-privilege user can read another customer's records by changing one identifier. Gryffin's testing combines tooling for coverage with manual, business-logic-aware testing for the findings that actually matter - then reports them in a form your engineers can act on the same week.
What the engagement covers.
External infrastructure testing
Internet-facing assets, exposed services, misconfiguration, weak transport security and credential exposure - assessed the way an unauthenticated attacker would approach them.
Internal network testing
Assumed-breach testing from inside the network: privilege escalation, lateral movement, Active Directory attack paths, credential harvesting and access to crown-jewel systems.
Web application testing
Manual testing against the OWASP ASVS covering authorisation, session handling, injection, business-logic abuse and multi-tenant isolation, on top of automated coverage.
Mobile application testing
iOS and Android assessment across client-side storage, transport security, platform misuse, anti-tampering, and the backend APIs the app depends on, aligned to OWASP MASVS.
API testing
REST, GraphQL and service-to-service interfaces assessed against the OWASP API Top 10 - broken object-level authorisation, excessive data exposure, rate-limit bypass, token and key handling.
Cloud configuration review
Authenticated review of cloud accounts covering identity policy, network exposure, storage permissions, logging and key management.
What you receive
Certified testers, recognised methodology
Testing follows PTES, OWASP ASVS, MASVS and the API Top 10, mapped to MITRE ATT&CK, delivered by testers holding OSCP, CREST and equivalent credentials - so the report holds up in customer security reviews and regulatory scrutiny.
Manual depth where it counts
Roughly the majority of the findings we consider high severity come from manual testing of authorisation and business logic. Those are the flaws no scanner reports and no attacker ignores.
Retest included, not sold separately
Remediation verification is part of the engagement. You get an updated report showing findings closed, which is usually what the customer or auditor actually asked for.
Production-safe rules of engagement
Scope, timing, rate limits, prohibited actions and abort conditions are agreed and signed before testing begins, with a named contact reachable throughout.

An enterprise deal blocked on a security questionnaire
A payments feature about to go live
An annual test that keeps finding the same things
Someone is watching at 3am. And they answer.
Attacks do not arrive during office hours; they arrive when nobody is looking. A managed SOC gives you continuous coverage without staffing three shifts - but only if the detection content is built for your environment and the escalation arrives with an investigation already attached. Gryffin builds the detection, runs the monitoring, and escalates with a recommendation rather than a raw alert.
What the engagement covers.
Log source onboarding and normalisation
Identifying the telemetry that matters, onboarding it, and normalising it so correlation is possible across endpoint, identity, network, cloud and application sources.
Detection engineering
Detection content written and tuned for your environment and industry, mapped to MITRE ATT&CK, with coverage gaps documented rather than glossed over.
24x7 monitoring and triage
Continuous analyst coverage with alert triage, enrichment and investigation before anything reaches you.
Escalation and response support
Agreed escalation paths, severity definitions and response-time commitments, with pre-authorised containment actions where you want them.
Threat hunting
Scheduled hypothesis-driven hunts looking for what the detections would have missed, feeding new content back into the platform.
Reporting and coverage review
Monthly operational reporting and quarterly coverage review against ATT&CK, with a roadmap for closing remaining gaps.
What you receive
Detection built for you, not shipped as defaults
Default SIEM content produces volume, not value. Our engineers build and tune detections against your log sources and business processes, and we measure the true-positive rate rather than the alert count.
Coverage you can see
Detection coverage is mapped against MITRE ATT&CK, so you know which techniques you would catch, which you would miss, and what closing each gap costs. Nobody has to take the coverage claim on trust.
Escalations that arrive with an answer
An alert reaches you triaged, enriched and with a recommended action. Where you have pre-authorised containment, the action has already been taken and you are told what and why.
Bring your own platform, or ours
We operate on Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, QRadar, Elastic and others. If you have already invested in a platform, the engagement starts by making it work rather than replacing it.
Illustrative. Scenarios drawn from common engagement patterns.

We do not just design it. We build it.
This is the hands-on delivery arm that sits underneath every technical pillar. Phased deployment, integration with what you already run, change management and knowledge transfer - the difference between an architecture document and a control that is actually enforcing something in production.

Network & Switching Security Implementation
Deployment and hardening of switch-, routing- and network-layer controls - segmentation, port security, management-plane protection and secure configuration baselines across the estate.
Perimeter & Endpoint Security Deployment
Rollout of firewalls, gateways, EDR and endpoint controls with policy migration, phased cutover and rollback planning so production is never the test bed.
Cloud Security Implementation
Building the cloud controls into live accounts - landing-zone guardrails, CSPM, CASB, cloud-native firewalls, logging and identity - rather than advising on them from a distance.
Application & API Security Implementation
Deployment of WAF, API gateway protection, secrets management and secure coding controls into running application environments and their pipelines.
Open-Source & Toolchain Hardening
Securing the open-source components, dependencies and build toolchains your stack depends on - provenance, version governance, vulnerability triage and hardened configuration.
IoT & OT Security Implementation
Device profiling, network segmentation, secure provisioning and monitoring for connected-device and industrial environments, implemented without interrupting the operational process.
Migration, Cutover & Knowledge Transfer
Structured migration from legacy platforms with parallel running, documented runbooks and handover training so your team can operate what we leave behind.
Certified engineers across the platforms we deploy
Delivery is done by engineers holding current vendor certifications on the products being implemented, not by generalists reading documentation on your time.
Phased cutover with a rollback at every stage
Production is never the test bed. Each phase has entry criteria, a validation step and a documented rollback, so a problem at 3am has a known answer.
Integration with what you already run
New controls are integrated with existing identity, logging, ITSM and monitoring rather than installed alongside them. A control that nobody can see in the tooling they already use does not get operated.
Handover that actually transfers knowledge
Every deployment ends with documented runbooks, configuration-as-built records and hands-on training for your team. You are not structurally dependent on us afterwards - and if you want us to keep running it, that is a choice rather than a trap.
Illustrative. Scenarios drawn from common engagement patterns.
A security platform bought eighteen months ago and still not live
Firewall estate at end of support with no migration plan
A production line that cannot be taken down for security work
Access to an application, never to the network.
A VPN authenticates once and then grants network reach. Zero Trust grants access to a named application, re-evaluated on every request against who the user is and what state their device is in - so a stolen credential opens one door instead of the building. The technology is the easy part; Gryffin's work is delivering it in stages your users accept and your operations team can support.
What the engagement covers.
Access architecture and policy design
Application inventory, access policy by role and risk, device posture requirements, and the trust evaluation model applied to each request.
Identity foundation
Directory hygiene, group and role structure, conditional access design and phishing-resistant authentication - the prerequisites without which Zero Trust cannot be enforced.
Phased migration from VPN
Migration sequenced by application and user group, with VPN and ZTNA running in parallel and a rollback path open at every stage.
Device posture and compliance
Posture signals from endpoint management and EDR fed into access decisions, so an unpatched or unmanaged device gets a different answer.
Third-party and contractor access
Time-bound, application-scoped access for external parties, replacing standing accounts with broad network reach.
Decommissioning and validation
Retirement of legacy remote access once traffic has moved, with testing to confirm the old paths are genuinely closed.
What you receive
Adoption is the hard part, and we plan for it
ZTNA programmes stall on user resistance, not technology. We sequence by application and user group, communicate ahead of each wave, and keep the old path available until the new one is proven.
Identity treated as the foundation
Zero Trust enforced on a directory full of stale accounts and over-broad groups is theatre. Identity hygiene and governance come first in every engagement we run.
Vendor-independent design
We design to the requirement and deploy on Zscaler, Netskope, Cloudflare, Prisma Access or the platform you already own. The architecture does not change because the logo does.
Rollback at every stage
Each migration wave has documented entry criteria, validation steps and a rollback. Remote access is not a system where you find out at 9am on Monday.
Illustrative. Scenarios drawn from common engagement patterns.
VPN unable to carry a hybrid workforce
Contractors with standing network access
Acquisition requiring access without network integration
